Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Traditional rulers have historically played a pivotal role in governance, conflict resolution, and cultural preservation in many African societies. Despite the advent of modern political systems, traditional rulers remain influential figures in their communities, serving as custodians of culture and intermediaries between the people and formal government structures. However, the visibility and recognition of their roles have diminished over time, partly due to the lack of effective documentation and promotion. Photography, with its capacity to capture and communicate compelling visual narratives, offers a unique opportunity to highlight the contributions of traditional rulers. 1.2 Statement of the Problem
